Hometown Living At Its Best has been the motto of our family owned and operated business for over 16 years. Being able to showcase local businesses and entrepreneurs who help our community grow and thrive brings me pure joy especially being a born and raised Midland’er. The Faces in this issue are not only business leaders in West Texas but they are also leaders in their church, philanthropic institutions, volunteers, youth organizations and much more. I truly believe that a community is not solely based on a title or location but on the relationships that are built and maintained and that is exactly what I believe every Face in this magazine represents. You are able to get to know every business and person professionally and personally through The Faces of the Permian Basin. In addition to showcasing their business, the Faces have chosen to showcase and raise awareness to a nonprofit organization of their choosing. So many lives are bettered through these organizations both on the receiving end and the teams of people that give their time, effort and talent. I kindly suggest that as you read through this issue that you consider involving yourself or donating to a charity that speaks to your heart. On behalf of Hometown Media Group, we hope you thoroughly enjoy this issue for the year of 2025, and we would be honored to partner with you to evaluate your business. May this year bring joy, laughter, love and much prosperity. Thank you for supporting our local Faces and organizations! We are the only meat shop around that relies solely on our own cow herd to provide our beef. We control the quality of our product from pasture to plate. WHY ARE YOU PASSIONATE ABOUT THIS INDUSTRY?I am very passionate about ranching and the cowboy way of life. Our industry is constantly having to adapt to outside circumstances, whether it be weather or feed prices. There are so many variables which make things challenging. Farmers and Ranchers as a whole are extremely hardworking and quite honestly the backbone of this country. It’s an industry I don’t want to see fade away; I want to see it grow and adapt. WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE THING ABOUT WEST TEXAS? Most definitely the people. I think just about everyone says that about West Texas but it’s true. 12 faces of the permian basin | hometownmedia.group A 3:11 According to Midland ISD, 58% of MISD children are economically disadvantaged. At 3:11, our mission is to bless these local kids with a little childhood magic, while meeting their basic needs in practical ways. We work closely with MISD and other agencies to identify children in need, and to provide opportunities through which this community can meet those needs. To that end, we have three programs that serve hundreds of local kids yearly: Kids & Khakis is a behind-the-scenes program that delivers clothing, shoes, coats, and hygiene items directly to kids at local schools at the request of school personnel. Our unique Perfect PROMise program provides donated prom dresses to students free-of-charge to bless them with a dream prom dress they could never afford. 3:11 Christmas annually fills the wish lists of hundreds of local school children, taking a burden from parents struggling to make ends meet. These kids can then return to school in January with new clothes, warm coats, and special stories of Christmas, just like their more-advantaged peers. 15 hometown living at its best THE FACE OF Billy Black BILLY BLACK HVAC HOW ARE YOU INVOLVED IN THE COMMUNITY? This is honestly my favorite thing about being a small business owner. We are proud to support a variety of local programs, but I have to say my favorite is our involvement in youth sports. It’s a great feeling to see your name associated with making things better for the next generation. And an especially great feeling to know your sponsorship potentially created an opportunity for a kid to participate in a sport who otherwise wouldn’t have had the chance. HOW DO YOU MEASURE SUCCESS? Real success isn’t about a bottom line or a bank account; it’s about lives you’ve changed along the way. It’s been awesome to see people on our team buy their first homes, first cars, have health insurance for their family for the first time… We’ve also been fortunate enough to meet customers who have been dealt a tough hand, and be able to say, “You know what, this one’s on me.” We’ve been so blessed with loyal customers and opportunities, and seeing the ripple effect these relationships create makes the hard days worth it. WHAT IS THE NUMBER ONE THING YOU WISH MORE PEOPLE UNDERSTOOD ABOUT THEIR HVAC SYSTEM? An HVAC system is a lot like a car or any other working piece of equipment. We agree with the industry-standard recommendation of having two maintenances performed by a licensed HVAC technician each year. To put it on autopilot and keep customers from forgetting, we offer an annual package that includes a spring and a fall inspection and tune-up, along with discounts on any repair services that might be needed. Cardiovascular disease is responsible for 1 in 3 deaths each year, claiming more lives than all forms of cancer combined. However, the Association emphasizes that most cardiovascular diseases can be prevented through education and healthy lifestyle changes. This includes maintaining a balanced diet, engaging in regular physical activity, avoiding smoking, and managing stress. Funds raised through local events and donations play a crucial role in the Association’s efforts. These funds help save the lives of children born with congenital heart defects and support adults struggling with heart disease. Additionally, the Association provides CPR training to thousands, equipping individuals with the skills needed to save lives in emergencies. WHAT KEEPS YOU MOTIVATED WHEN THINGS GET HARD? My daughters, without a doubt. As a mom of two young girls, I am setting an example for how they navigate their future be it work ethic, how you treat others, how you want to be treated and so many other things. They bring out the best version of myself. WHAT IS THE BEST PIECE OF ADVICE YOU WOULD GIVE? Take a walk and talk to God. Be kind and give grace. Love others as you want to be loved. Order the dessert. HOW DO YOU MEASURE SUCCESS? There are multiple metrics to success. I believe if you can confidently say that you are raising good, confident children, if you are actively taking care of your health, you have faith and trust in God, people look at you in a positive light, and you are financially responsible, you are successful. WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE THING ABOUT WEST TEXAS? I feel collectively that all West Texans will say the community. Midland truly is an amazing place that supports each other. We pour ourselves into making our city the best it can possibly be. Not to mention the sunrises and sunsets can’t be matched. WHAT THREE WORDS WOULD YOUR FRIENDS USE TO DESCRIBE YOU? 29 hometown living at its best THE FACE OF 2025 FACES of The Permian Basin Meredith Hulsey, DO MEDICAL CENTER HEALTH SYSTEM WHY ARE YOU PASSIONATE ABOUT THIS INDUSTRY? Medicine gave me the opportunity to blend biology and community. I love anatomy. Through college, it was always my favorite course no matter the creature I was studying. Yet providing empathy and clarity during another’s struggling moments is a privilege that I chiefly value. Integrating science knowledge with human connection results in life satisfaction for me. HOW ARE YOU INVOLVED IN THE PERMIAN BASIN COMMUNITY? My husband and I have rescued 22 dogs off the byways of Odessa this last year since partnering with Dogs Rescue R Us, a rescue based in Gardendale. The thousands of neglected and abandoned dogs in the PB needing a second chance inspired us to participate. We foster and sponsor supermix breed dogs—they have the best of all breed features combined! We also donate to help these same dogs transport to states that have stronger animal protection laws; where mixed breeds are rarer and desired. HOW DO THE RESIDENTS OF PERMIAN BASIN BENEFIT FROM YOUR BUSINESS? The residents of the Permian are my patients and customers. I want the PB community to receive quality healthcare delivered with empathy and integrity. 500 West 4th Street, Odessa 972.824.2369 mchodessa.com Outstanding Healthcare WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE THING ABOUT WEST TEXAS?
